A plaque can be seen on the south wall of Talland Church to commemorate his 32 years of service as Parish Clerk. Beneath, a second plaque, commemorates three of their sons Joseph, John and Thomas Stick Blatchford.
Thomas Blatchford was born 21 October 1820, Pelyn Mill, Lanlivery, Cornwall. He married Mary Stick, from Tywardreath, in 1846, Liskeard and had 7 children. He built a cottage at Talland Sands, Talland Bay, and they lived there for many years with their daughter Mary, whilst the Clerk and Sexton of Talland Church.
“not long after we occupied the Vicarage [1891] the old iron stove and Mr. Blatchford both gave up work. The Blatchfords retired to a cottage in Polperro [on Talland Hill] where I remember the old couple sitting on the settle by the fire, and Mrs. Blatchford wearing a black net cap.”
