“Rev. W.F.J. Romanis, was a Housemaster at Charterhouse School so their houses once in Talland and then in Polperro were mainly used during the school holidays. Many relatives’ children attended Charterhouse, and because their parents were overseas, the children stayed with ‘Uncle Bill and Aunt Annie’ during their holidays.
Rev. W.F.J. Romanis was the son of Rev. William Romanis (1824-1899) an eminent cleric and author of several hymns, best known for ‘Round me falls the night; Saviour, be my Light.’
