Ancestry Research – Master Mariner, living in Liverpool, born Portland, Dorset. Married Ann Rendle at Talland Church 25 March 1849. Captain of the ‘Startled Fawn’ caught in the Calcutta Cyclone, which killed over 60,000 people.
‘In the great tidal wave at Calcutta in 1864, his vessel, the Startled Fawn, was caught in the catastrophe, and from the exposure incident to saving her, Captain William Thompson Rowett was sized with a fever from which he died.’
