In 1920 Wanda Hilpern married Capt. Donald Romanis. She was of Italian descent and raised in Alexandria. She and her mother came to live in the Coastguard Cottages in Polperro.
Donald and Wanda had three daughters: Anne, Charmion and Dawn. Anne became a distinguished economist who spent much of her career working for the International Monetary Fund in Washington. During WW2 both Charmion and Dawn worked at Bletchley Park on deciphering codes. Because of the highly secret nature of the placement neither of them knew about the other being there.
