This family cross monument covers four generations and includes great grandchildren they never would have met. The slate headstone, pictured below, belonging to Nathaniel and Eulalia, was uncovered just a few yards away from the family cross.
In 1804 Nathaniel Hearle is described as a ‘Gentleman’ in the churchwarden inventory. On one of the Talland Church bells, his name is inscribe, along with Charles Turner, dated 1788. They were both listed as churchwardens together, on this date.
Nathaniel Hearle is listed as Talland Church Warden: 1782,1787,1788,1790,1792,1794,1796,1797,1800,1801,1802,1805,1807,1808.
And son Nathaniel Hearle was also Church Warden: 1811,1814,1817,1818.
