Ancestry Records – shows John Quiller, as a bachelor and gentleman, and is Sophia’s uncle. In 1861 census John is living with Sophia’s family – her father, Thomas Rowett (1783-1864), brother, husband, and baby son, on Talland Hill, Polperro.

John Quiller was born in Liverpool and was a Master Mariner and Captain of the ‘Statesman’, barque, 345 tons. Documents show he would regularly carry merchandise & passengers to Port Phillip (Melbourne) & Sydney: typically
