Grade II Listed Headstone

10m to south of tower of church of St Tallanus.
Headstone. 1760. In memory of Thopson Rundles of Polperro.
Slate headstone with triangular head. Crude angel head above inscription which is in lower case lettering with serifs. Heart below verse.

The Burying in Woollen Acts 1666–80 required the dead to be buried in pure English woollen shrouds.

Quite often, richer people would chose to pay the fine of £5; a proportion of which was paid to the poor.

On June 3rd 1742 the Church Wardens paid masons 2/6d when they took the old window out of the Tower.

The following day they paid Tapson Randell and John Ricot 2/8d for a days work making a new oak window.

Two days later Arthur Teny senior, and son Arthur, were paid 13/4d to install the new window and repair the stonework. It took them five days to do the work.

Parish Records – could this be Thopson Rundles?
