Benedictus Sargent is described in the churchwarden indentures as a Yeoman from Talland, when he became a churchwarden for the years 1803-05. His name is inscribed on one of the bells in the belfry at Talland, dated 1804; it was re-cast in 1913.
He marries Sarah Hickes at Pelynt church in 1787, although her name is seen as ‘Sally’ on the headstone.
A large ledger stone lying in the centre of the church is dedicated to Jenny Sargent (1788-1789) and William Sargent (1791-1796), children of Benedictus and Sarah Sargent. Ledger Stone 11
