Talland Church Headstones

Vicar of Talland – for 33 years – 1713-1746

• No Headstone detectable, but documents give inscription.

“Here lieth the body of the Rev. Mr Richard Doidge, late of Talland, Vicar, who departed this life the 13th day of January, 1746, in the 93rd year of his age”

According to Dr Couch, in 1871 this tombstone was “still to be seen in the Higher Churchyard, though in fragments”. By 1931 , it was no longer in place.

Bond, the historian of Looe, describes him as “a very worthy man, and much respected: but he had his eccentricities”.
