John Steph(en) Matters 1824-1830
Ledger Stone 10
~ Slate ~ The nibble broken edges suggest this stone has been moved; the top edge and wording along the top edge and letters to one edge have been lost. The undamaged edge gives traces of a decorative double incised line and running dot pattern, which would have had a shaped top border.
~ Orientation ~ North/South ~ Centre South Aisle ~ 100 x 57cm // 2’4″ x 1′ 10″

John Stephen(s) Matters forename is shown in full on the burial records, but his aged as been mistakenly recorded as 3 years. Or, maybe the ledger should read an age of 3 years & 5 months? Probate details confirm his father, John Matters, was a shopkeeper in Polperro.
One of our OPCs went to Kresen Kernow recently to check the image for this burial and the age is definitely recorded as 3 years
