The Will of John Symons (1723-1765) shows he was a schoolmaster of West Looe; it was signed on 28 June 1765, one day before he died. Named are his sister; Elizabeth Maynard, widow, and his daughter-in-law; Johanna Langmaid.

There is a marriage recorded between John Symons and Elizabeth Langmaid on 5 May 1752, at Talland church; using the birth dates on the stone, John would be 29 years old and Elizabeth 41. It would also mean Elizabeth Symons (1711-1761) would have been 4 months pregnant with son James when she married; but we do know she died 3 months before her young daughter Elizabeth.
