stone citation and verse
Their parents were Richard Mutton (1760-1840) and Catherine Barrett, who married at Talland Church on 8 October 1781. In 1852/3 Richard Mutton was recorded living at a Freehold House, in Polperro.
From 1810 at Talland Church there was an annual ‘singing feast’ which included ‘the singing master’s salary’. In 1824 £3.10s was paid ‘to teaching of singing Messrs. Barrett & Mutton, their salary’. Singers were accompanied by instrumental music, which included, ‘music strings’, bass viol’ and ‘pitch pipes’.
