Will of John Honey, bargeman, of Talland, dated 1836. AP/H/8039 Kresen Kernow.
Looe Canal opened in 1828; shiploads of lime were brought into Looe harbour, then loaded onto narrow, short barges and carried through 25 locks, climbing 160 feet on the 6mile journey to Liskeard railway station. The return journeys would be made up of thousands of tonnes of tin, copper and coal, for transportation around the coast, until the 1850’s when the railway line took over.
