From the obituary below it confirms that Charles Walcott was employed as a coast guard in 1846.

Probate of Charles Walcott, of Port Looe in Talland, dated 15 May 1850. BRA1896/2. Kresen Kernow.

Will of Charles Walcott, Boat Captain in Her Majesty’s Navy of Talland, dated 27 November 1851. PROB 11/2143/2 National Archives. Will has been transcribed; a very long detailed account of what to do with his stock funds, securities and trusts.

It is thought that working drawings of major building work to be carried out at Talland church, dated 5 Sept 1848 were created by Charles Walcott. The plans show ‘New [north] wall & proposed windows’ detailing alterations to ‘Lancet windows’ in west wall and an additional two new windows to the south wall. Major refurbishments took place between 1848-1850. The rough pencil site drawings entitled ‘finalised working drawing’ were dated 5 Sept 1848 and confirmed ‘4 Bells’ in the belfry.

From a communication with the Incorporated Church Building Society, which gave £30 towards it [building works], we gather that £337 was readily given by parishioners and landowners including £100 from Captain Charles Walcott, R.N., who at that time lived at Portlooe. Local men from Looe and Polperro were employed to carry out the work. The interior seems to have been throughly pulled to pieces, and very roughly put together again.
